This program is sponsored by the Village of Riverton and Clear Lake Township.

Location: Clear Lake Township Garage, 4260 Old Route 36

Hours: 8 am - Noon (April - November) and 8 am - 10 am (December - March)

When: 1st Saturday of each month (unless holiday weekend) – see calendar for upcoming dates/times

Fees: CASH ONLY (exact change recommended)
$10.00 per truck load (standard load size 6x8 max, attendants discretion)
Extra fees for tires and some electronics (see information listed under acceptable items)

Rules :

  • Open to Clear Lake Township Residents only
  • No share dumping for out of district residents (Violation will result in banishment from the dumpster program. No warnings will be given.)
  • Photo ID/proof of residency required
  • No interim dumping (Except for special circumstances, needs Highway Commissioner’s approval.)
  • No salvaging
  • No commercial dumping (Includes businesses and landlords.)
  • Allowed one truck load per month
  • Max load size is 6 x 8 (Oversized loads and extra loads will no longer be accepted. Arrangements can be made for special circumstances with approval from Highway Commissioner.)
  • Loads must be secured properly and tarped (Loads not tarped will not be accepted.)
  • Children must never be left unattended
  • Children not allowed on the rock piles or equipment
  • Violators are subject to being barred from the program (see penalties below)

Items not accepted :

  • Mattresses, unless torn apart
  • Any type of paint cans, unless completely empty
  • Roofing materials of any kind
  • Yard waste; grass clippings, leaves, gumballs, etc.
  • Everyday household garbage (Attendant will be keeping a record)
  • Tires larger than regular car or truck tires
  • Fluorescent lights
  • Mercury, thermometers and medical waste
  • Latex, oil-based and aerosol paints
  • Stains, finishes and paint thinners
  • Large nickel cadmium batteries
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Propane tanks
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Smoke detectors
  • Thermostats
  • Animal carcasses
  • Large construction material (ex. building teardown, large remodeling jobs, etc.)
  • Explosives and fireworks
  • Pesticides, insecticides and herbicides
  • Chemicals; hobby, yard, pool and household
  • Antifreeze and old gasoline and/or diesel
  • Any item labeled “hazardous material”

Examples of acceptable items :

  • Appliances, all liquids must be drained
  • Lawn mowers, all liquids must be drained                 
  • Water heaters, all liquids must be drained
  • Metal items, except what is listed under not acceptable
  • Tree limbs from storm damage
  • Automotive batteries
  • Rechargeable batteries each weighing less than 11 lbs
    • Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
    • Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
    • Lithium Ion (Li-Ion)
    • Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
    • Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/ Pb)
  • Cell phones and their batteries, regardless of size, make, model or age
  • Car or truck tires
    • Must be off the rim
    • Limit of 4
    • Fee of $2.00 per tire
  • Electronics
    • Fee of $5.00 for computer monitors:  CRT or LCD
    • Fee of $10.00 for televisions:   CRT, DLP, LCD, LCoS, PLASMA, PROJECTION AND TUBE
    • No charge for the following items:
      • Answering machines
      • Battery backups/ uninterruptable power supplies
      • Batteries (power tools)
      • Cable receivers & equipment
      • Camcorders
      • Cameras
      • Cell phones
      • Computers (desktop/laptop/tablet)
      • Digital converter boxes
      • DVD players/DVD recorders
      • Fax machines
      • Keyboards (computer)
      • Keyboards (electronic)
      • Mailroom equipment
      • Mice (electronic)
      • MP3 & CD players (portable)
      • Networking equipment/cables
      • Pagers
      • PBX equipment

Penalties for failure to follow the Dumpster Program policies :

  • 1st time – verbal warning
  • 2nd time – items will be refused and reminder letter will be mailed to resident
  • 3rd time – items will be refused and resident will be banned from participating in the program
